On Friday, July 16, 2021, Normani released her comeback single, Wild Side, with featured guest Cardi B after a two-year hiatus. When I heard she was releasing music again, I was happy about it because even though she hasn't released many songs in her solo career, she makes an impact when she comes back to the scene. My thoughts on Wild Side are pretty simple - it's amazing and one of the best songs of 2021.
Wild Side is a sexy and intimate track about making love with someone you either haven't seen in a long time or a new relationship where you haven't made love yet, but you're ready to take the next step. Normani's vocals are sensual and smooth, the beat is perfect, the transitions are flawless and the chopped vocals at the end of the song added something I never knew we needed, but it all worked so well. This is how you begin the roll-out for an upcoming album.
In regards to Cardi B's verse, I've seen and heard a lot of people say it was unneeded, especially after we found out that Wild Side was initially intended to be a solo single, but I disagree. I think Cardi B's verse was very fitting and a great addition to the already perfect track. Normani could have definitely carried the song by herself, but I do really love Cardi on the song.
Other things I appreciate about the track are the adlibs in the verses and the harmonies in the chorus. I really have no thoughts about the music video, because at this point, I only expect visual excellence from Normani and she didn't disappoint.
Wild Side has been on repeat since it was released and I give it a 10/10. It is truly that great. I really hope it does well, which I know it will because I already saw that it is expected to debut on The Billboard Hot 100 in the top 50 after only ONE day, so I can only anticipate a top 20 debut by Monday. I am really excited about her debut album. After its release, I am sure Normani will solidify her spot in the R&B scene as one of the best of this generation. If you haven't listened yet, this is your sign to do so.
