Flo Milli is a female rapper from Alabama who broke onto the scene with her song, Beef FloMix, in 2019. It was used heavily on TikTok and if I'm being completely honest, I just assumed she was one of those artists who made songs just for it to go viral on social media, so I never gave her a second thought. However, after listening to her debut mixtape, "Ho, why is you here?", in January 2021, I realized it was a mistake not getting into her music earlier.
The first thing I noticed about Flo Milli is that she exudes confidence. If you're ever feeling insecure, play her music. I guarantee your insecurities will go away instantly. As Flo Milli raps in Like That Bitch, "Even if I broke my leg and used a crutch, I walk around like that bitch," that's exactly how you'll feel after pressing play.
Not only is her music a confidence boost, but she's a good lyricist. Her punchlines are often really clever and sometimes funny. The first line that comes to mind is, "Getting money is a must like no deodorant on your pits", also from her song Like That Bitch. A funny lyric from the same song is, "I'm tryna fly on a private. She tryna ride on his privates. Baby, we different." From her song May I, she raps, "I'm on your man's mind like a fitted."
Though she doesn't often use an excessive amount of punchlines, her cadence is what sells her music. Regardless of what she's rapping about, she does it so confidently that you have no choice but to listen the entire way through the song. In addition, her beat selection also drives her music, as harder beats suit her aggressive rap style.
She only has a mixtape out, but I am very interested to see her progression as an artist. I will definitely be listening to her music from now on. In my personal opinion, she has the potential to be the best female rapper from this new generation of female rappers if she focuses on further developing her writing and expanding the subject matter in her songs. She makes rapping seem easy. She switches up her flow multiple times throughout her songs. Like That Bitch is a perfect example of this, where her flow changed either five or six times.
Flo Milli is an artist you should keep your eye on. I have no doubt she'll only get more successful because she's very versatile, talented, and creative. I can't wait to see what her debut album will sound like, but based on the material we've already heard from her, I know it's gonna be a banger.
